The following is a rubric that was created for the Positive and Negative Space Creature.

students will build a collage using magazines with words that describe a struggle

Using concepts from Surrealistic painters that we've studied, create a collage where the ordinary is used in extraordinary and unexpected ways.

An exciting, dynamic collage can be created with cut paper and abstracted shapes to create rhythm, movement, balance and variety

Make a collage on poster board that shows services and goods being produced. Use magazines, news paper, the computer, and your own drawings. Once completed, share finished collage with the class.

Students create a layered self-portrait. One layer showing what others see of them. One layer representing what is inside of them.

This rubric is used to assess students' ability to paint a unique portrait compiled of inanimate objects.

100 Points Possible. After studying "I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold" by Charles Demuth, create a self-portrait in his style. Tissue papers will be layered in geometric shapes and colored paper will make the main shapes and the number. IN THE COMMENT AREA, WRITE A STATEMENT ABOUT HOW THIS ARTWORK REPRESENTS A SELF PORTRAIT.

Create a Self Portrait painting on canvas include personal symbols.

Provide watercolor paints and paper for each student. Tell the students to paint a picture of a tree and include what it needs to survive. Keep the pictures to use later as an assessment.

Students will create an acrylic painting on masonite panel recreating the style of well known Pop artist Romero Britto. The painting must use a color harmony and have a theme that is split into shapes for its composition.

Students will create a painting inspired by the style of a specific artist.

Students will compose and paint an acrylic still-life done from observation using color technique, textural rendering and avariety of painting styles

After studying the handout on the element of line, students were asked to draw a fall still life, using contour lines to create the shapes of the gourds, corn and pumpkins, then they were to paint the still life in watercolor paint to complete the drawing. The point of the contour line was to enable the student to create the illusion of three dimensions. The success of the painting hinged on furthering that look with careful use of overlapping line, drawing the mat the objects were placed on drawing a horizon line to keep the objects from floating, using creativity in the background to create an interesting painting. The time allowed for this project was a week and two days, thus enabling every student to have a chance at success.

A rubric that evaluates the artistic process and researched information for an acrylic painting. It measures the various phases, research applications, and approaches necessary for style interpretation into the assessment of an acrylic painting project.
