Design and construct a simple machine (wheeled vehicle) using new and recycled materials. The aim is to make a vehicle that will travel the furthest when it is rolled down a ramp.

5th Grade Life Science

To learn about the characteristics of the planets that orbit our sun, to create an informational guide for others, and present material in a slide show presentation.

Students will do labs using hypothesis, list all materials, write steps of procedure, results.

Complete a written handout on assigned planet, and present the planet including relevant information from handout to create understanding for fellow classmates

Students can earn from 0-10 points per class based on their behavior during class.

Students will take their knowledge of the solar system and with a box make some kind of solar system layout. The planets should be in the correct order and be relatively proportioned to each other. The sun should be included as part of the solar system. All planets should be clearly labeled in some way. This is a project ment to let students show their creativity and let them show how they view the solar system. Students are encouraged to use color and decorate the entire box. This is worth a possible 25 points.

Students will read a novel in a literature circle. For the culminating project, each student will create a SCOPE It Out book report . Fold your poster paper in half (hot dog style). Make four cuts in one of the halves to form five flaps. Label each flap with a letter from SCOPE. Under the S flap, draw and write a caption for the setting of the book. Under the C flap, draw and label the characters of the book. Under the O flap, describe the order of main events. Under the P flap, describe the problem and solution of the book. Under the E flap, draw and describe the ending. Put your name on the project. This is due Friday
