(20 POINTS - 4 points each section) Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be determined. All students are expected to participate in class! I do understand that some students are shy and participate in ways other than class discussion. Forms of participation other than participating in class discussion (although this is a primary form of participation) include coming to me for extra help, giving other students feedback in class, adhering to the no-voice and no-phone rule, consistent attendance, and being able to answer in-class ASL dialogue from both the teacher and other students. NOTE: If you get to the point of having a fair/poor participation grade in one or more areas, it will probably be recommended that you withdraw from the class, as you probably will not be able to keep up with the material. If a student is absent, s/he losts points on the punctuality grade rubric also.

GD 1

VIPT 1st Year

Rubric to assess the design and graphic work of students in Design studio class. Includes all major categories for assessment in a visual layout as well as craft of work. Also includes rubric for a physical model.

Create an original CD cover design for an original artist, original music and genre. Complete the assignment with a 2 page descriptive essay explaininghow your cover design produces meaning to your target audience.

Student develops their own plan for a portfolio project that is worked on the last term. This rubric can be used in evaluating all types of art including: ceramics, drawing, painting, collage, & digital art.

GD 1

The students will develop a poster design on a topic of their choice. The poster must utilize one color harmony: analogous, complementary, triadic, tetradic, etc. Additionally, the design must exemplify good use of the elements and principles of graphic design.

T-shirt designs will be a composite of several elements. Your t-shirt design needs to include elements of design and principles of design with a high degree of effectiveness, making your completed project eye-catching and attractive.

Students will learn about the life and works of Vincent van Gogh. They will identify his style and create a line drawing of their own interpretation of Starry Night using oil pastels.

Produce a collage using 8-10 pictures/photos/images from the internet that reflect/play off of your theme. You must show evidence that learning the photoshop software has taken place.

Students will accomplish the following SOLs by creating a pen and ink drawing; AII.1 The student will expand the use of a sketchbook/journal by adding preliminary sketches, finished drawings, critical writings, and class notes. AII.5 The student will demonstrate proficiency and craftsmanship in the use of an expanded range of art media. AII.7 The student will employ the visual problem-solving process in the production of original works of art. AIII.1 The student will maintain a sketchbook/journal that demonstrates research, fluency of ideas, concepts, media, and processes. AIII.6 The student will develop skill, confidence, and craftsmanship in the use of media, techniques, and processes to achieve desired intentions in works of art. AIII.8 The student will demonstrate initiative, originality, fluency, commitment to tasks, and openness to new ideas in the creation of works of art. Each area is worth 25 points.
