The six components below are the basis for good essay writing.

This means I will introduce a claim and organize the reasons and evidence clearly, support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence, using credible sources, use words, phrases, and clauses to clarify the relationship among claim and reasons and provide a concluding statement that follows the argument presented

Write a Comparison and Contrast Essay, comparing yourself to the narrator of a short story from their childhood. Contrast your own childhood memories with the ones of the narrator. Compare any similarities. Base your thesis on a contrasting aspect of your childhood.

Students will compare and contrast any two things to explore the elements of a compare and contrast essay.

Oral communication is a prepared, purposeful presentation designed to increase knowledge, to foster understanding, or to promote change in the listeners' attitudes, values, beliefs, or behaviors. Oral communication takes many forms. This rubric is specifically designed to evaluate oral presentations of a single speaker at a time and is best applied to live or video-recorded presentations. For panel presentations or group presentations, it is recommended that each speaker be evaluated separately. This rubric best applies to presentations of sufficient length such that a central message is conveyed, supported by one or more forms of supporting materials and includes a purposeful organization. An oral answer to a single question not designed to be structured into a presentation does not readily apply to this rubric.

Problem solving is the process of designing, evaluating and implementing a strategy to answer an open-ended question or achieve a desired goal. This rubric distills the common elements of most problem-solving contexts and is designed to function across all disciplines. It is broad-based enough to allow for individual differences among learners, yet is concise and descriptive in its scope to determine how well students have maximized their respective abilities to practice thinking through problems in order to reach solutions. This rubric is designed to measure the quality of a process, rather than the quality of an end-product. As a result, work samples or collections of work will need to include some evidence of the individual’s thinking about a problem-solving task (e.g., reflections on the process from problem to proposed solution; steps in a problem-based learning assignment; record of think-aloud protocol while solving a problem). Guidelines for scoring a stand alone descriptiveparagraph.

Upon completion of in-class practice of identifying and writing short stories that contain the main parts of a story, the learner will be able to effectively write and identify what components make up a story through descriptive details.

TASK - Students will Narrate a story of a time when a significant event occurred in their lives that changed them. Students should explain in details the events and describe their reactions and lessons derived.

Write a news article about a local event for a student newspaper. Write a headline and a subhead. Begin with a strong lead. Answer the questions who, what, when, why (or how), and where in your article. Use at least 2 sources/quotes and include necessary stats. Sports articles must be 150 words, news articles 200 words. All stories must have art (photo or graphic).
