English IV Speed-Dating Presentations Rubric

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the poem, Beowulf, to the graphic novel and movie versions.

Writing or rewriting a Dystopian Story

Changing Perspectives Diary Entry
In a diary style entry, tell of the battle one of the monsters had with Beowulf. Include the monster's feelings about the events leading up to the battle, how he felt during the fight, a "blow-by-blow" description of the battle, and how he felt about not being able to kill Beowulf. Each event is a different entry and at least one page in length.

Your task is to resurrect Beowulf as a hero for today's world. You will first need to choose a country with a specific problem that Beowulf can solve. Use international news sources (like those listed below) to help you make your choice. Construct a functional resume based on the country and problem that Beowulf needs to solve. and prepare a Cover Letter to accompany the resume which introduces himself, offers his services, describes their problem, and how he will help them.

English Unit I Culminating Activity

Contemporary Issues Propaganda Assessment
Your task is to create a form of propaganda based off of an example you've seen or read either from the lessons in class or individual research. The Propaganda you create (poster, cartoon, film, artwork, book, speech, etc...) must demonstrate your side of the issue research for your presentation. The analysis must explain how the piece of propaganda clearly demonstrates your point of view based on the research you did.
