The October precept is based on the following quote: "Sadly, it is easier to create a desert than it is to create a forest.

Students will take a free write to develop. Students then will be able to write clear and structurally accurate simple, compound, and complex sentences.

Imagine you are the main character from our human rights unit. Write a diary entry describing any event you choose to discuss. Make sure to be detailed in the event you choose.

Students are able to show understanding of Topic 3. Students were to use the process of problem solving showing at least two strategies.

Students will discuss what it means to have courage and to be brave. Students will use two texts discussed to support their explanation with a clear understanding of how it connects to the human rights topic of study.

Problem solving is the process of designing, evaluating and implementing a strategy to answer an open-ended question or achieve a desired goal. This rubric is designed to measure the quality of a process, rather than the quality of an end-product. Students worked on this task to show understanding of Topic 2

The students will put together a presentation and prepare either one page for each rock or diorama presentation. The presentation will contain information regarding the characteristics of rocks and minerals. The students presentation will deliver a message of what they have learned about rocks & minerals and how they are used in our living environment.

Wonder by RJ Palacio Students were asked: What does the September precept mean to you? How do the conversations between August, Summer, Julian, and Jack Will relate to the precept?

The 5th grade student will complete an All About Me poster about themselves. They must include: 5 basic facts about themselves (ie - birthday, number of siblings, where they were born); 5 of their hobbies and/or dislikes; etc. They must include 3 drawn pictures of themselves depicting any of the things discussed in their poster (ie - a picture of themselves playing their favorite sport, a picture of themselves celebrating a holiday with their family, etc.)
