A spoken word performance of the student's original writing/poetry or prose/fiction or non-fiction or memoir.

Students will write a Spoken Word poem. The writing will reflect the speaking style of the poem. The poem is free verse, however, some poetic elements should be incorporated.

After students were taught the parts of a friendly letter, they were asked to write a friendly letter to Chanie. The letter was to tell the Chanie anything they wanted, knowing it would be delivered to him while he walked along the 'Secret Path' after escaping the Residential School. The directions were also to be sure to correctly use all parts of the friendly letter and include at least 8 sentences in the body of the letter.

Students will compose a suspense story 2-3 pages (5 pages max), which they should prepare to read to the class. In this story, students will demonstrate their ability to drive a plot and build suspense using one of the illustrations from the literacy book as a guide. The story will be presented to the class.

Assignment - To create a comic book cover displaying your non-stereotypical superhero character. Research comic book superheroes and determine what is considered stereotypical for either male or female genders. Decide which qualities you would like your character to possess and be prepared to explain why you chose those elements.

Commercial about the Dangers of Cell Phones for Middle School students: Your group needs to make and present a commercial. The commercial needs to be a minimum or 30 seconds and a maximum of 90 seconds. Your group can act this out, or preferably record your commercial an Ipad. Your commercial needs to include at least one fact about cell phone use and your age group.

Students will compose a suspense story. In this story, students will demonstrate their ability to drive a plot and build suspense using literary devices.

Students will create a song of protest using creative writing and poetic devices. Students will recite lyrics/and /or perform, sing song for the class.

A project on one performer or band performing Socially-themed Music. Give details about one protest song, group members, style, members' lives, their influences and why they are popular.

Promote yourself as the famous musician you become! Design album cover, write autobiography, create poster, song titles and lyrics. Journal entry for grade 8 only.

This rubric is created to asses in writing a short story project. The students will show their understanding about the characteristics of short story and they will choose the topic of their own short story freely but must include all of the Wordnik Words and show understanding of definitions.

The students will work individually to put together a title page that represents a character or group that represents New France.
