Students are expected to complete the assigned reading and come to class fully prepared to discuss and critically analyze the reading material. Each class member is responsible for finding answers to questions that arise to enhance her own learning and the learning. Because of the format of this experiential learning opportunity, class discussion will be an even more critical component of this course. Each class will be spent discussing reading, experiences, reflections, and interviews we have had with individuals living in Ecuador.

Portfolio: Introduction(Cover Letter), Reflection Piece Rubric This rubric will evaluate the Introduction or Cover Letter of your Portfolio answering the questions:How would you define cultural identity? How does your interpretation relate or differ from the Graphic Novel American Born Chinese? The Rubric will also be used to evaluate your Reflection Piece within the unit answering the questions: How did each experience differ? Which piece in the portfolio did you enjoy creating the most and why? And how did multi-modal texts shape your opinions about identity and culture throughout the unit? This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a 4 week task wherein students compile original poetry done in class showcasing the use of imagery, and other literary devices. Poems includes limericks & haikus all presented in one portfolio.
