Year 5 has been learning about islands that make up the Caribbean in Social Studies. We have been learning about the 3 main regions- the Bahamas, the Greater and Lesser Antilles, how the islands are similar and how they differ. Our project was to complete and present a project on a given country highlighting key information. This is due on October 31, 2016.

Students will research on the given topic. Students will be placed in groups of three and will be assigned to one sub topic under human resources. Each group will be given a set of questions to guide them. They are to prepare a fifteen minute presentation. They are to prepare a chart or ppt to present their information. They also need to do a culminating activity.

Students will spend the semester creating an original script as a final project. The script can either be a stage play, screenplay, or teleplay. Students are allowed to choose their topic, script type, and are given opportunities throughout the semester to write it.

Students will work in pairs to create a pamphlet describing the three places visited. Students will provide accurate information on the places visited in a creative and colorful pamphlet using pictures or drawings. They are to include the names of the persons who will give the tour of the site. The pamphlet will be designed on a standard size sheet of paper and in color.

Students will compile five poems in a portfolio. The following types have to be included: alphabet, acrostic, diamante, cinquain and limerick. The poems need to be accompanied by a drawing depicting the subject of the poems. The poems need to follow the proper format. The portfolio must include a cover page with the topic 'Types of Poem,' an introduction (What is poetry for me?) and a conclusion (one paragraph on which was there favorite type of poem and reasons why)

TSW create a foldable to illustrate on dangling modifiers. TSW write the definition of a dangling modifier on the cover of the foldable. In the cover they will write the three sentence given and will highlight the dangling modifier. They will illustrate the each sentence with the dangling modifier in the second flap of the foldable. Then, they will correct the sentences eliminating the dangling modifier and will write on the third flap of the foldable.

Students will write an expository essay explaining a problem and solution to Global Warming. They will explain the problem and give a possible solution to the problem.

We can expect students to produce good writing only if they understand what good writing is. For example, a student writing a personal essay needs to know that personal essays express the writer’s thoughts and opinions, often incorporate personal anecdotes or experiences, and are usually written in a less formal style than a literary analysis or other form of essay. In an assessment situation, it is only fair for students to know how their work will be judged. Knowing the criteria for good writing will also help students evaluate and revise their own writing before it is submitted for teacher evaluation.When you give students the criteria, discuss what is expected of them.
