Students will write a poem based on their culture, their family, traditions or memories. They will tie all of these elements together in a poem that follows the poem read by Nicolas Guillen. Go through the writing process-rough draft, proofread and final . your poem should contain a minimum of 10 lines. On the border around the poem, create symbols that represent your poem.

In this essay, you will you analyze the poet's use of literary elements (parts of the poem and figures of speech) and use this analysis to interpret the style of the author. They will also extend the poem's theme(s) to personal experience.
