This rubric is used to assess the students' use of the engineering design process for designing a snowball catapult.

Objective - Student will be able to design a roller coaster from various functions, that is continuous, and reasonably safe for riders. The roller coaster should include (but is not limited to) one (1) loop, and two (2) hills. Students will be able to calculate velocites, acclerations, and other related concepts of derivatives.

You are to research your favorite artist. Write an essay with a minimum of 600 words and no more than 700 words. The paper format will include a cover page (no pictures), an introductory paragraph, conclusion and bibliography page. The paper content must inlcude place of birth, where he/she grew up, family, education, major life changes. This should be your own wording / your own work. Please do not plagerize (ie: copy someone else's work and pass it off as your own) information sheet given.

Students must create a 3-D cell model of BOTH a plant cell and an animal cell. Students must label all parts of the cell, and be prepared explain their model. Create a 3-D representation of the major aspects of a cell, including but not limited to those listed on pg 90 and 91 in their textbooks.

Students are assigned to build a model of a plant cell and/or animal cell. They were given a list of required parts and the directions were to build the cell models out of items given and must represent the FUNCTION of the cell part and NOT the shape. Students also do a writing piece that illustrates the function of each part of the animal or plant cell.

Create a functioning robotic hand from straws and string.

General Rubric for Assessment - based Bloom's Taxonomy

While a physical property can be observed without altering the identity of a material, a chemical property cannot. Chemical properties are observed when substances are converted to different substances with different properties.

Write an essay describing your visit to the SBMNH. Reflection should be at least 3 paragraphs in length and include scientific terms and examples. Areas to include can be the Discovery Labs, Geology Walk, Planetarium Exhibit, and the Museum Tour.

Building Lithium Atoms Students will list the basic components and structure of the atom; identify the electrical charge and its subatomic particles; explain how engineers use their knowledge of atoms to create new technologies

Write an essay of between 100-200 words about why you should be respectful of your teachers, parents, and peers.

Make a poster for the display that will help teach visitors the basics about matter. It should be presented on a poster board and include: 1) a definition of matter 2) an example of a physical and a chemical property 3) an explanation of how matter is classified as substances, elements, compounds, and mixtures. 4) a definition and brief description of atoms and how they relate to molecules and compounds. 5) an example of a physical and a chemical change.

Students will research TWO topics from the list below and write a 1-2 page research paper for each topic chosen. Each paper must be at least 6 paragraphs in length, include at least 1 picture, scientific information, and correct references/citations. Choose from: - Food Chains - Botany - Photosynthesis - Layers of the Earth - Rocks: Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic - Plate Tectonics - Erosion - Fossils - Astronomy - Planets and Moons - Stars and Constellations - Chumash Culture

During and after your week at Outdoor School you kept a journal of daily events and demonstrated understanding through workpages in the back of the journal.

In this laboratory investigation, you will be conducting two types of chemical reactions. You will determine the type of reaction and products made based on your explanation of evidence.

Write an essay of between 100-200 words about why you should turn in your assignments or return important information that your teacher requests on time.

Students will estimate unknown density of assorted objects based on known density of different layered liquids.
