Students in groups of twos. Students are to follow use the website (http://howthingsfly.si.edu/activities/forces-flight) to explore how to build an airplane. Start by trying to design an airplane that can go 500 mph, then try to build an airplane that can reach 37,000 ft in altitude. Change the wings (lift), fuselage shape (drage), engine type (thrust) and material (weight) to build a plan that can reach your goal.Take notes of successful combinations and be prepared to discuss with the class.

In groups of three, collaborate on an answer to the following question, responses need to be a minimum of 4 complete sentences: Based on what you know about forces and fluids, how does an airplane fly? If you think there are forces acting on the plane, name them and describe what on which part on the plane do they act.(Hint: Remember that air is a fluid)
