Choose a general volcano location (convergent plate boundary, divergent plate boundary, or hot spot). Build a three-dimensional, working model of this type of volcano. Create an accompanying poster describing the volcano in terms of specific locations, type of magma, type of eruptions, how it is formed, and the effects of that type of volcanic eruption.

Students are expected to make a boat of that must float and carry a small amount of weight.

The students will put together a poster to show during their oral presentation. The poster will contain information that the students collected during their research. The group presentation must be aligned with the poster.

Lesson focuses on the growth of tall buildings and their structures. Students work in teams to develop the tallest tower they can build with limited materials that can withstand "forces from a hurricane". They develop a design on paper, build their tower, present and test their tower to the class, evaluate their results and those of their teammates, and complete reflection sheets.

All bridges must be made out of straws and tape and spans 25 cm (10 inches) across the gap.
