Choose a song you like and examine it for poetic devices

After closely reading your poem with your partner, one of you will record a reading of the poem. Then you will choose music and images that illustrate the mood and theme of the poem.

This project will demonstrate your understanding of Romeo and Juliet. You have lots of options (see Edmodo).

The goal of this essay is to analyze to accuracy of the historical fiction novel you read in class. You will research the topic on which your novel is based, then compare the nonfiction event with the event as portrayed in your book. You will write at least 5 paragraphs for a total of around 3-4 pages.

Students will debate a topic related to the book they read for the historical fiction novel unit.

On a person-shaped outline, include as many details as known about each of the Greasers from the Outsiders. Describe or draw physical appearance, and list all other known traits.

You will be creating a book report to share with other potential readers of a book you have read. You may choose any of the following options (or something else you come up with and discuss with Mrs. Travis): a book trailer, a podcast review, an online poster, a fake social media account for the book's characters, or a sports-style broadcast.

One to two page essay on the play Antigone. Choose one of the four prompts. This assignment will serve as your final.

After reading Freedom Writers, we have seen how students can change the world. We will do our part to change the world by writing a letter to a person in authority, convincing them to make a change.

This project will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of _The Outsiders_. You may either choose to represent the 12 main characters (Ponyboy, Soda, Darry, Dally, Johnny, Two-Bit, Cherry, Randy, and Bob) or each of the 12 chapters.

Your group will develop a lesson for one element of punctuation. Your group will present information on that subject to the class, then design an activity for the students to practice it. Students will then do a worksheet (your choice from the Grammar for Writing workbook) to assess their comprehension of your lesson. You, as the instructor, will be exempt from that worksheet, but you will be called upon to be the expert on that topic and answer other students' questions.

Essay will examine and analyze a poem or song of your choice. In this essay, you will which you analyze the poem’s literary elements (parts of the poem and figures of speech) and use this analysis to interpret the meaning of this poem. In other words, what is the poem saying and what literary elements does the author use to demonstrate this message?
