The introductory English class, English 101 is a class designed to introduce students to the study of English. In my English 101 class, we study topics such as grammar, sentence structure, essay structure, MLA format, citations and research techniques. Although it is an introductory class, the topics we cover in English 101 will benefit me in every college class I will ever take. 

This picture describes me because I usually feel like the wierd person. My hair doesn't look good, my clothes aren't in style, I'm red when I'm supposed to be yellow. I would love to say that I don't care what people think about me, but the truth is that I care a lot. I'm not really sure why fitting in is so important to me. I guess it's because I'm so shy. I put up this barrier that says "I'm shy, so don't talk to me" when I really do want to socialize and make more friends! So, because of this, I sometimes feel like people don't want to be my friend. And then I feel like the odd person. I certainly don't want to be this way. I want to be proud that I'm the red flower and that I am unique. But I'm just so worried about fitting in that I can't embrace who I am.

The first English 101 essay assigned to my class was a cause/effect essay. I wrote about the effects that a Clemson Home Football Game brings to Clemson, South Carolina.

Being my first college essay, I worked very hard to make sure I would receive a good grade, and I did. A solid B gave me confidence to know that if I continued to work hard and write essays the way I had on the cause/effect essay, I would be successful. Since this first essay, I have used the same techniques and continued to do well. The comments my instructor gave on this essay were to watch my comma usage and work on essay structure. I have applied these critiques to my writings and have seen good results. I worked very well on time management and I think I produced very good work with this essay.
