Matilda: A Story Board 
Students in this project must take their knowledge of Matilda, from their Language Arts class, and apply it to art. Students will be creating a story board of Matilda, by Ronald Dahl, using pencils, paper, crayons, markers, string and poster board. Students must use their imaginations to show Matilda's 'powers,' and their pictures to facilitate Dahl's novel in a new way.

Student's participation in class is factored into this grade (ie interaction with classmates, respect of classroom materials).

Level 4

Student's respect of classroom materials was extraordinary; student respected everything they used as it was their own. Student respected everyone in class, as well as their peer's projects.
Level 3

Student's respect of classroom materials was not desirable, however they completed all 'care' tasks acceptably. Student had an okay amount of respect for others, could improve.
Level 2

Student's respect of classroom materials was poor. Student had little or no respect for others in class.
Effort

Student's classroom effort (ie desire, work ethic, time use...)

Level 4

Student used all or close to all class time to create their project. Final product shows exemplary effort.
Level 3

Student used approximately half of their class time productively. Final product shows mediocre effort.
Level 2

Student used little or no class time to create their project. Final product shows little or no effort.
Time line

Does the student's story board follows novel time line? (use of string to connect pictures, to show order.)

Level 4

1 or 2 pictures were out of place, but the reader could still understand what the story was about.
Level 3

2-7 pictures were out of place, reader had little or no understanding of the story within the novel.
Level 2

The pictures were not connected to the story and made no chronological sense to a reader.
Elements of art

Students use of the elements of art to make the story board appealing to the viewer's eyes.

Level 4

Student shows premiere knowledge of the elements of art, and the project appeals to the viewer (the viewer would hang this in their own home).
Level 3

Students knowledge of the elements is lacking; project has little appeal to the viewer (viewer likely would not hang in their own home).
Level 2

Student shows little or no knowledge of the elements; project has no appeal to the viewer (viewer would not hang in their own home).
Artist Statement

Student's connection to Language Arts.

Level 4

Statement had 5 or fewer spelling and term errors in it. Met length requirements, and the chosen words fit their art work (descriptions).
Level 3

Student completed their statement, it was comparable to their art but did not meet length requirements. Student's statement also had between 5 and 20 spelling or term errors in it.
Level 2

Student did not complete their statement, or the assignment turned in was not comparable to their art work. Their statement, if turned in and relevant to the art, had too many (20+) spelling errors and/or incorrect term usage.
