Informative/Explanatory Essay and Infographic Rubric

Students will identify the 3 types of author's purpose from various materials and explain why that text fits the author's purpose they chose.

Students will create a comic strip about the important events that occurred in their book.

This book report will contain multiple elements and students will be expected to organize the elements as identified by the project. Student name and date should appear in appropriate place in accordance to the project chosen. First: The report should include the title and author of the book and a complete description of the main characters. Second: Descriptive Settings should be included (When and where did the story takes place?). Third: The main events should be included in the plot/summary section (What happened in the story?). Fourth: The main character should be identified and an appropriate analysis is made of the characters physical and personality traits. Fifth: The turning point/climax of the story is included and described in detail. Sixth: An illustration that depicts the plot is included. Seventh: The final element is included (either vocabulary or resolution).

Students will create a comic strip about the important events that occurred in their book.

Students will research, plan, and compose a speech in which their performance will be evaluated in terms of specific standards set in class, including the clarity and completeness of your speech and the quality of your presentation in explaining your topic matter. Non-verbal communication is highlighted. Students will have 3 to 4 minutes to deliver the speech.

By the end of this lesson students will be able to identify their background knowledge and specific text clues that lead them to draw inferences. This will be assessed through the students ability to use the inferring equation BK+TC=I (Background Knowledge + Text Clues = Inference).
