VELS REFERENCES for Level 4/Year 5

 

 

  • ENGLISH DOMAIN- is centred on the conscious and deliberate study of language in the variety of texts and contexts in which it is spoken, read, viewed and written.
  • Concern for a wide range of written and spoken texts in print and electronic forms including literary texts such as novels, short stories, poetry, plays and non-fiction; film and other multimedia texts, media texts, information.... and personal writing.
  • The study of english involves reading, viwing, listening to, writing, creating, comparing, researching and talking about a range of text types from the simple to the complex.
  • The meaning of text and how it is conveyed is important to understand.
  •  
  • COMMUNICATION DOMAIN- focuses on developing students who communicate clearly and confidently in a range of contexts both within and beyond the school
  • To communicate successfully students need to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that empower them to respond to, make meaning of, and deconstruct a range of communication forms.
  • ...skills and bevahiours to effectively present information, ideas and opinions in a range of forms, including verbal, written, graphic, multimedia and performance, appropriate to their context, purpose and audeince.

  • DESIGN, CREATIVITY AND TECHNOLOGY DOMAIN- focuses on three dimensions;
  • Investigating and designing- students identify ideas, problems, needs, wants and opportunites.
  • Producing- Students begin to manage the production phase which includes the safe manipulation and use of tools, equipment, materials and components to carry out the processes appropriate to the assembly of system components to produce a quality product.
  • Analysing and Evaluating-students compare the outcomes of design and production activities with earlier design work and planned intentins. This follows the application of testing, improving, modifying and the consideration of alternative approaches.

  • ARTS DOMAIN- encompasses two dimensions;
  • Creating and making- focuses on ideas, skills, techniques, processes, performances and presentations. They explore experiences, ideas, feelings and understandings through making, interpreting, performing, creating and presenting. This involves imagination and experimentation.
  • Exploring and responding- focuses on context, interpreting and responding, criticism and aesthetics. Analysis and development of understandin about their own and other peoples work and expressing personal and informed judgements of art works.

 

 

NOTES FOR PROGRAM:

You may have noticed that the total weeks to complete this program will take longer than a term- this will mean that the MAJOR TASK will run over into the second term.  

 

Suggestions: 

First option is to continue with the program as stated and hold the concert in the middle of the term, when the time frame is completed.

Second option is to use the conclusion activities to continue the program through the second term and hold the concert as a finale of two terms hard work.

Obviously, your decision...
