Educational Philosophy

Education is the power to think clearly,
The power to act well in the world work,
and the power to appreciate life.
    - Brigham Young

A teacher’s core philosophical beliefs about teaching are the very things that define them as a teacher and acts as the determinate on students learning outcome. A teacher’s attitude and the way in which one delivers their views to students within their classroom are the very things that distinguish a successful teacher from an unsuccessful teacher.

My philosophy of education encompasses several elements. I support the idea of delivering lessons with the aid of external concrete material and integrating sessions with other curriculum areas in order to consolidate content knowledge with world situations. It is obvious that the the key role for a teacher is to ensure that all of his/her students are learning to the best of their ability. However, I believe that as a professional, a key factor in achieving this from each and every student is to deliver diverse teaching strategies, some including: the use of student’s prior knowledge- to cater for all students and their learning needs. Promoting discussions and questions as a class- results in critical thinking as a group. I believe that great teaching opportunities arise when a focus is explained to children from many angles and in different forms. This results in productive learning and will be evident within a classroom.
Teachers are role models to their students and one's teaching capabilities will not only have a direct influence on his/her students academic learning but also the way in which they intereperate life as a whole. Therefore, I believe that teaching is a profession that prides itself on the emotional, social and physical development of children, which ultimtely is a major determining factor in the life they choose to lead in the future.
