ENG 101

English 101 is an introduction to college english. It is an in depth understanding of the different styles of writing papers. The different styles include compare and contrast, illustration, cause and effect, argument, and research. There is also a detailed teaching of the steps for the writing process and what is involved for each step. This course also shows the importance of including all factors of a paper such as the thesis, purpose, and audience in order to create a successful paper.

This image is a bright multicolor painting. The background is filled with many different patterns. The top right corner has a small sunset with a white dove and the left corner looks like grass with purple splotchy flowers. Clouds go across the middle and across the red square. If looked at closely, the top of the painting looks like the round top of the planet earth and at the bottom of the painting it looks like an aerial view of earth, showing the body of water, some white clouds and continents. There are white swirl designs on the forefront of the painting. There is a black sketch of a girl's face in the middle of the painting and she looks like she's in deep thought or day dreaming. On her forehead is a small red heart. There is also another blue heart underneath her face. To the right edge of the painting a red apple is placed. In a cursive font, "Live your dreams" is written beginning at the top of the painting and ending at the bottom.

I chose this painting because I feel that it explains my personality. The painting is vibrant and full of life and I love my life and live it to the fullest. I'm always day dreaming and thinking about my future dreams and goals. I like how there is a heart painted on her forehead because it explains that your dreams need to be your heart's desire. The dove is also symbolic for freedom of choice when deciding what you want out of life and that your free to choose how to live. I think the red apple is also a unique touch because its symbolic for wisdom and I hope to have wisdom when faced with life's tribulations. The patterns and white swirls show a side of creativity which I feel that I have. My favorite part is how the painting seems to split earth with her in the middle. I am a small part of a big world but that doesn't limit me from dreaming big! The saying, "Live your dreams" is inspirational for me because it's motivational and pushes me to strive for the best out of life and to be happy.

My English Paper

I chose this paper because it's personal. When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, many of my family members lost their homes. My uncle's real estate business was torn down and has taken years to rebuild. A place that I loved to go to when visiting family and ride the ferry boat was in ruins. It was very emotional for my dad because he had many memories from New Orleans when growing up. It was also very sad to see how people lost everything. This cause and effect paper meant a lot to me because of the emotions and past that was tied to New Orleans and how hard it was to watch people lose everything.
