Registration Mandate

RCampus

Letter Sent with Petition

Senator _______,

We are senior sonography students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA. As senior students, my group members and I realized that there is a problem with practicing sonographers not being registered. We recently sent you an e-mail asking questions about the CARE Bill, or any bill requiring diagnostic medical sonographers to be registered prior to practicing.

Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Radiologic Sciences Program recently adopted a policy requiring all sonography students to become registered prior to graduation. As senior students in the program, we are currently preparing to take our national registries. This summer I and two other senior students set out to educate and gain support on our campus. We have been petitioning individually and on campus and have obtained over one-hundred signatures from supporters. There are many people that believe that practicing sonographers should be registered, and were unaware that it was not currently a mandate. We would like to see other schools follow in our footsteps and require their sonography students to become registered before receiving degrees or certificates. Please take our thoughts and the evidence of our supporters into consideration.

Thank you,

Holly Hughes, Robbi King, Libby Woodward
