Dear Parents/Guardians

& Drama Students

 

 

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and let you know that I am very pleased that ______________ (students name) has decided to join our drama class this fall! Theatre is a great way for students to grow in so many different ways. It helps them find confidence in themselves and is very useful in preparing students to enter the world of business, as it encompasses many skills that employers look for in workers; articulation, interview techniques and poise.

  Drama is an amazing art form! Students will learn about worlds they may never have known about and learn about people that are different from ourselves and learn about all the different parts within ourselves. Through working with other students and exploring differences they will build trust in creative instincts and understand compassion.

 

What we will be doing?

The members of our ‘acting troupe” will be expected to come to class ready to play. This means ready to take part in class activities and ready to learn. They need to take of personal needs BEFORE they come to class.

The members of our troupe need to come to class with energy and to say ‘yes’ to the exercises.

That they are prepared with paper and pen or pencil and a notebook.

That they wear clothes that they can move in.

That they respect the teacher, other students and themselves.

That they support the work that is being done in the classroom.

 

Homework: There are few written assignments in drama, so when one is due it is important. The skills involved in Drama must be developed and this requires writing. I expect that all homework should be completed by the deadline so that we can all move on. If homework is completed on time and further work is necessary the student will have the opportunity to redo the assignment for full credit. If the work is turned in late the final mark will be one full grade below the grade that would have been earned if the assignment had been turned in on time.

To be clear here is the “A” student in class:

Comes to class on time without gum.

Listens to me.

Listens to others when they are speaking in class.

Shows a willingness to try different assignments and warm-ups.

Is prepared to perform when called upon.

Volunteers during games but is considerate that others also might want the ‘stage’.

Shows a positive attitude toward the class, teacher and peers.

Their reward for Responsible Action **Success in class!!!**Positive feedback to parents** More performance opportunities!!** People will like working with you!!**

 

 

 

For our ‘acting company of players’ to reach for the stars WE NEED YOUR HELP. If you would consider helping in the following areas that would be great. Scene/set construction, hanging lights, props, costuming, makeup, concession, ushering duties, and many more tasks that need to be done to make sure our productions and the student’s experiences are the best we can make them.

Having people in their families who are able to participate in the drama activities is a very powerful thing to students. I hope we can count on any help you can give. My contact numbers are
