Information Texts: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. Students will write an informational text with a main idea (topic sentence), 5 facts to support the main idea (supporting details), and restate the main idea with feeling (conclusion sentence). The students will use correct punctuation and capitalization. The sentences will make sense to the reader using correct grammar.

The student will work with a partner to make a poster of a chosen planet that includes 10 facts and 5 opinions about the planet. The planet will include 5 graphics or pictures about the planet. The students will create a neat and well written project.

Students will create a poster of our solar system with the planets.

Grade 3 is beginning a new science unit on Our Solar System. For our project, students will take their knowledge of our solar system and create a 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional model of it. The planets should be in the correct order and be relatively proportioned to each other (example: Mars should not be bigger than Jupiter). The sun should be included as part of the solar system. All planets should be clearly labeled in some way with at least one fact about that planet included. This is a project meant to not only see how students view the solar system, but to also showcase their creativity. Students are encouraged to use color and to get creative while learning. This project is worth 30 points and is due October 29. Each student will have to present their project to the class, so they should come prepared to discuss how their 2-D or 3-D solar system model was created and be able to share/discuss a little about each planet.

Student will create a mini poster based on a biography book read in class.

Students will write 3 full sentences on how to be a good citizen in their town.

We have spent a few days researching inventions of the past and why they are important to America. Students will create an advertisement to promote their invention.

This rubric is for summary of a story using character, setting, problem and solution.

Write your first friendly letter to a new pen pal. Describe yourself so the pen pal feels as though he or she has met you.

Biography of historical figure. Biography should include important details of figures life and the contributions he/she made. A paragraph will be written about the figures life.

Students will read a picture book. They will find the main idea and supporting details. They will create a paper tree with the main idea as the trunk and the supporting details as the leaves.

Students will collect data from their classmates by asking one question. They will then organize their data into a graph.

For our project, students will take their knowledge of our solar system and create a 3-dimensional model of a planet assigned to them. The planets should be relatively proportioned to any moons the planet may have. The planet should be clearly labeled in some way. This is a project meant to not only see how students view the solar system, but to also showcase their creativity. Students are encouraged to use color and to get creative while learning. This project is worth 100 points and is due March 28. Each student will have to present their project to the class, so they should come prepared to discuss how their 3-D solar system model was created and be able to tell facts about the planet.

Create a book report that contains elements of a book that can be pulled out of a paper bag. Create a design on the paper bag to show a significant scene from the book.

Teaching groups will be given a lesson in the textbook. Teaching groups will produce a lesson, complete with presentation, an exciting activity, a visual aide and an informative worksheet. Each group will prepare and practice their lesson in class before presenting their activity to the entire class.
