Prostate Cancer Awareness.

DON'T BE SCARED

BE AWARE

Prostate cancer is a growing epidemic in our country. Thousands of families are affected by prostate cancer. There will be around 218,000 new cases diagnosed this year and more than 27,000 men will die of this disease in the U.S. alone. Not only is this the second leading cause of death in men, but African American men are 61% more likely to develop prostate cancer and almost 3 times more likely to die from the disease.

Diet and exercise can help reduce the risk, but early detection is the key to reducing mortality. Free screenings are often available and are highly encouraged. The American Cancer Society will be conducting free screening during National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. This will be a great opportunity for our community. For more information contact the ACS at (912) 355-5196. or their website www.cancer.org
