In 1994-1997 I volunteered for a program in NY called Project Challenge. This program was developed to help kids who didn't have anyone to go home to after school. There was computer classes offered, a gym to be opened to play basketball, or tutoring. I did some of the tutoring.
For the last five years I have been a very active PTA member at Mt. Pilchuck Elelmentary School located in Lake Stevens. I was the chairperson for three years at their school auction, I ran a district wide spelling bee, I started Family Fun Nights which encourages families to spend time together through the activities I set up, I ran their assemblies which included things like bringing a childrens author to do a writing workshop, and helped run a school wide tile project.
I have volunteered for the Parks Department helping to clean up the parks of litter.
I have also volunteered at a soup kitchen.
For the last three years I have led a Girl Scout Troop that consists of 10 girls. I have been able to expose them to many different opportunities including camping, volunteer work, science opportunities and diversity issues.
This past year I have been a Jr. Acheivement volunteer, going into kindergarten classrooms.
