Educational Philosophy

My Educational Philosophy is to make learning as fun as possbile.  I believe in the constuctivist approach to teaching.  The more hands-on activities you can incorporate inot a lesson the more the students can participate in their own learning process.

In this technology age, we as teachers, have so many more choices on how to teach a lesson.  With all the software, digital cameras, camcorders and other technological equipment, we can enhance our lessons so students will stay engaged. For example in Reading we can make it more visually stimulating and fun. Students can work through reading software packages.  They can use things such as Read with me DVD or digital storytelling websites.  There are also places online that helps them do reporting such as Liberty's Kids a PBS station TV show.  This is a far cry from those days of sitting and taking turns reading out of a boring reader.  I chose reading to discuss because it is the most important subject taught in school today.  When a student cannot read they are not only made fun of by other students but they are limited with what they can do in the future.  Everyone needs to be able to read and teachers must do whatever it takes in order to get their students reading at their level.  This can be done a lot easier in this new technology age.

As for students' learning process.  I know that as I teacher I must be aware of the various learning styles and the rates of learning of each individual student and modify my learning techniques accordingly.  As more and more students are diagonsed with various behaviorial problems or other mental problems such as ADHD and Autism, teachers must keep up with the ways that work when teaching these types of students.  Flexibility is a key issue when dealing with these types of problems.

The learning environment must be a comfortable and conducive environment for all your students so they can all have the chance to learn.  A school free of bullying and where students are rewarded and applauded when they accomplish even the smallest steps helps to make the school environment a place of greater learning.

Overall, a school that has technologoy access, teachers willing to continue to learn on their own and a comfortable environment is my idea of a good school that will produce the most learning.
