Choose an organism that existed during a specific geologic period in a specific location. You will then imagine yourself as that organism and use various resources about fossils and the geologic history of the Earth to write a story that describes their life, death, and entry into the fossil record. The Paleontology Portal will be used as the entry point for your research of a specific organism and the geography, climate and associated species in the area where the organism lived.

Oral Presentation Rubric

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the vocabulary terms by creating a song or rap and presenting it to the class. Presentations will be in-class presentations.

Student will demonstrate knowledge of the directional terms by creating a song or rap and presenting it to the class. Presentations can be either presented via Youtube OR in-class presentation.

Students will demonstrate knowledge on smoking/vaping use by developing a letter, PSA and/or rap song, and poster designed to explain the dangers of smoking or vaping and to fight its use in young people.

You will be creating a Public Service Announcement on importance of being an upstander in 45 seconds or more. You will be evaluated on the following criteria; Organization - PA flows logically, Content - Commercial explains issue, Eye Contact - focused on Camera, Clarity - audible, Use of music/sound effects - effective to catch attention.

Have you ever felt so concerned about something you wanted to shout it from the rooftops? A PSA, or Public Service Announcement allows you to do just that! In this activity, you will work in groups to write a PSA from the perspective of someone whose opinion matters! A public service announcement (PSA) are messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue.

The student will compare and contrast the book Where the Red Fern Grows to the movie of the same name. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the book and viewed the movie.

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to know what the expectations are for writing this comparing/contrasting paragraph. This rubric will help me, the teacher, to assess student writing and inform further instruction.The student will compare and contrast, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe book to the movie.

NOTE: If you get to the point of having a fair/poor participation grade in one or more areas, it will probably be recommended that you withdraw from the class, as you probably will not be able to keep up with the material. If a student is absent, s/he losts points on the punctuality grade rubric also.

This rubric will assist in assessing a fiction report on a fantasy. The students will read and choose a selected book on a fantasy. They are then to complete a final presentation which will include a shoe box book report and written work about the book.

Plot Elements Storyboard in which students create a plot diagram using technology or poster board that demonstrates the elements of The Graveyard Book. Students must use illustrations, questions and quotes.

Make a newspaper about the book or set in the same city as the book’s main setting. Include at least five parts of a newspaper: comics, advertisements, weather, news stories, feature stories, letters to the editor, obituaries, editorials, sports, etc.
