Welcome to American History at Alpharetta High School!

This class is broken into 2 semesters.  During the first semester, we will cover American history from the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 until roughly 1900.  In the second semester, we will start where we left off and finish on whatever day we are on.  This is your first in depth look at the history of your country, how we got here, and what are country has gone through in terms of the economy, politics, and culture.  Here is the breakdown:

 


Fall Semester: 

  • Unit 1 - Settlement of North America
  • Unit 2 - An American Revolution!
  • Unit 3 - Constructing the Constitution
  • Unit 4 - A New Nation
  • Unit 5 - An Era of Reform
  • Unit 6 - Civil War
  • Unit 7 - Reconstruction
  • Unit 8 - Moving West and Industrialization

 


Spring Semester

  • Unit 1 - The Progressive Era
  • Unit 2 - The World at War
  • Unit 3 - The 1920's and the Great Depression
  • Unit 4 - World War II
  • Unit 5 - The Cold War Begins
  • Unit 6 - The Civil Rights Movement
  • Unit 7 - Vietnam
  • Unit 8 - The Modern Era

 


  This class has a State required End of Course Test (EOCT).  This course is required for graduation.
