The California Gold Rush Rubric
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Writing Clarity	Poor Writing is incoherent; meaning is not able to be extracted due to poor organization or 5 or more spelling, grammar, and/or sentence structure errors.	Fair Writing is moderately coherent; meaning is sometimes unclear due to flawed organization or 3-4 spelling, grammar, and/or sentence structure errors.	Good Writing is coherent and organized, with fewer than 3 spelling, grammar, and/or sentence structure errors.
Historical Content	Poor Student shows lack of subject matter knowledge; does not adequately answer the question given.	Fair Student discusses 1 development adequately, OR discusses 2 developments, but with little demonstration of subject matter knowledge or use of social studies vocabulary.	Good Student discusses 2 developments, demonstrates subject matter knowledge, and utilizes social studies vocabulary.
Historical Significance	Poor Student shows lack of understanding of historical significance or life relevance.	Fair Student describes at least 1 connection between events in history and life today, but examples do not adequately represent understanding of historical significance.	Good Student makes meaningful connections between events in history and life today, utilizing relevant examples and describing significance of the concepts.
