Understanding Topic The student is able to demonstrate knowledge of topic as assigned.	4 Student generated work is outstanding in terms of topic development. Student goes above requirements.	3 Student demonstrates knowledge of the topic to satisfy requirements of assignment.	2 Student does not have a clear understanding of topic or uses too few examples.	1 Student does not provide evidence of topic knowledge.
Spelling Student will write for an audience using standard English conventions.	4 Student has no errors in spelling or grammar and uses a rich and varied vocabulary.	3 Student has 1 or 2 errors in spelling or grammar.	2 Student has several errors in spelling or grammar that do not affect the understanding of the subject.	1 Student has many errors in spelling or grammar that makes the work difficult to understand.
Effort Project shows thoughtful and careful placement of text and pictues. Evidence of work done outside of class.	4 Student exceeds requirements for design and style.
