3D Cell Model Rubric
3D Cell Model Rubric
The students will work on their own to create a 3D model of an animal cell or plant cell. The 3D model will contain all of the cell organelles including cell membrane and cytoplasm. Students will model the cell and organelles accurately, with labels and definitions/functions, in a creative and colorful manner. The materials the student choose to use is up to them, but the 3D model must be neat and can stand on its own.

Cell Structure/Cell Type
Poor
Model looks like generalized cell. No distinguishing factors of a plant, animal, or specialized cell.
Fair
Model can not be identified as the correct cell type, because it has characteristics of both a plant and animal cell. Most organelles proper shape, size and placement.
Good
Model clearly represents the correct cell type, with 1 to 2 cell part mistakes. Missing, misplacement, improper size or shape of one organelle in cell. Including an extra organelle.
Excellent
Model clearly represents the correct cell type and has the proper size and placement in the cell and has all organelles. Type of cell is labeled and correct.
Organelle Function
Poor
Missing more than 3 of cell organelle functions are described and defined clearly and/or poorly described, there are errors when being defined.
Fair
Missing 2 or 3 cell organelle functions are described and defined clearly.
Good
Missing 1 cell organelle functions are described and defined clearly.
Excellent
All cell organelle functions are described and defined clearly.
Cell Details
Poor
The work is done with poor effort. Cell parts and organelles are not detailed, they look like unformed and/or misshapen making them indistinguishable. Few are labeled accurately.
Fair
The work is done with fair effort. Most of the cell parts and organelles are not distinguishable. More detail is needed in order to identify cell parts and organelles. Some organelles are labeled accurately.
Good
The work was done with good effort. Most of the cell parts and organelles are distinguishable. Most of the organelles and cell parts are detailed accurately. Most are labeled accurately.
Excellent
The work done exceeds all expectations. The cell parts and organelles are easily distinguishable. All organelles and cell parts are accurately detailed. All cell organelles are labeled and placed correctly.
Creativity
Poor
Lacks original artwork. Not students own drawing/writing/crafts. Messy. Lacks color. Organelles are all/ most made out of the same material.
Fair
Not very appealing. Limited use of creative materials. Not a lot of color/shapes/design. Uses different objects for some organelles.
Good
Contains students own writing and drawing.Lots of colors, shapes, and appealing design. Shows the student spent time creating an artistic piece.
Uses different objects for most organelles.
Excellent
Eye catching. Great use of colors, texture, shapes. Artwork is the students own & is neat. Writing is easy to read. Model uses different objects for each organelle. Imaginative.
