Student tries to apply design principles but the overall result is not pleasing. Student captured a photo but it’s slightly confusing and doesn’t really bring in the artist. Negative space is not interesting and it lacks a focal point.

Choice and application of color shows an advanced knowledge of color relationships. Color choice enhances the idea being expressed. Value was highly rendered and the piece has a finished look where the fruit pops off the paper. Colors are very true to the image.

Choice and application of color shows knowledge of color relationships. Colors are appropriate for the idea being expressed. There are a good amount of values and colors, but the artist could have pushed it a little further.

Choice and application of color shows some knowledge of colour relationships. Colors are however, not appropriate for the idea being expressed. Colors and values are lacking. Colors are there, but are not true to the photos and more values are needed.

Students needs to work on learning color relationships and applying that knowledge to work. Student has very little values and limited colors.
Use of materials

Student shows obvious understanding of how to apply the medium and make different applications work together.

Student applies medium in a skilled manner, but a few areas are problematic but not distracting to the overall appeal of the work.

Student applies the medium, but has trouble transitioning from one application to another. There are several areas that distract from the overall appeal of the work.

Student misuses materials and does not apply the medium with any skill. Much of the work contains areas that are distracting to the viewer.
Craftsmanship

Student used their time wisely. Class times as valued and used from beginning to end. Student took extreme care of their paper and artwork. There are very minimal water blotches. Pencil marks were drawn lightly and erased or taken care of enough that they are not visible.
Good
Class time could have been used a little better. Student put time and thought into piece, but didn’t push themselves. Some pencil is still visible and there are a few water blotches. Student took pretty good care of their work.
Fair
Student needs to utilize the class time better or take work home. More time was needed. Accidental errors are prevalent. Pencil marks are distracting.
Below Average
Student did not use time wisely. Art took a hit due to time management. Many issues with paper and piece.
