The student was excellent when following procedures and instructions All requirements were exceeded. The student kept their canvas extremely neat and taped things off accurately. The student has four precise rectangular boxes drawn. The student has a well spaced border and spaces between the rectangular boxes.
Skilled 3
An understanding of most concepts and instructions is shown; following procedures is evident; all requirements were fulfilled however there were some inconsistencies with the spacing around the edge or between the rectangular boxes. The four boxes are pretty equal.
Emerging 2
An understanding of some concepts and instructions shown; some procedures were followed; most requirements were fulfilled. The student has a somewhat sloppy measured border and spaces between the rectangles. The student has some paint accidents as well.
Limited 1
Little evidence of understanding the concepts and instructions is shown; procedures were not followed accurately; some requirements were fulfilled.The students has a lot of paint errors and accidents. The border and spacing is very off and inaccurate.
Line work
Accomplished 4
The student used multiple line weights in a creative manner that makes the piece look interesting to its viewers. The student took great care when pulling their lines and they are very neat.
Skilled 3
The artist used multiple line weights, but it was somewhat distracting or a little too much. The student did have pretty consistent lines though and took time when pulling them.
Emerging 2
The student used less than three line weights and did not take their time pulling consistent lines.
Limited 1
The student has very inconsistent lines and it’s distracting to the viewer. The student also has limited line weight.
Color Theory
Accomplished 4
The artwork demonstrates a very good understanding of the three color themes. The artist took advanatage of mixing their tints and shades extremely well.
Skilled 3
The artwork demonstrates somewhat of an understanding of the three color themes. The artist used some tints and shades.
Emerging 2
The artwork demonstrates a below average quality of the three color themes. The artist has a limited amount of tints and shades.
Limited 1
The artwork demonstrates almost no quality of application towards the three color themes. Mixing was messy.
Painting Skills
Accomplished 4
The artwork shows outstanding painting skills with clear attention to detail; patiently done. Very flat consistent coats.
Skilled 3
The artwork shows good painting skills with some attention to detail; lacked the finishing touches needed to make it outstanding. Slight inconsistencies with paint coverage.

The artwork shows less than average painting skills for their class level and attention to detail; a bit careless in some areas.
Limited 1
The artwork shows below average painting skills and little attention to detail; a lack of pride is evident in the finished piece.
Design/Creativity

The design is clear and clean. The artist showed a high level of creativity when making their composition across the four panels. The artist has lines that extend beyond one panel and used multiple types of interesting shapes and lines.
Skilled 3
The design is somewhat clear and clean. The artist showed some creativity when making their composition across the four panels. The artist could have used a few more lines that went across the entire canvas and other panels. The art used many types of lines and shapes, but they don’t seem to be all very purposeful.
Emerging 2
The artwork shows design concepts but the artist struggled with keeping it clean and clear. The artist has distracting shapes and lines and therefore made it difficult to paint in areas.
Limited 1
The artwork looks rushed and messy. The artist did not put the time into the design and it shows.
