Homemade Musical Instrument Project Rubric Homemade Musical Instrument Project Rubric Objective: Students will research how musical instruments make sounds, and how to make a homemade instrument. Students will construct and present a homemade musical instrument from recycled materials. Presentation will be approximately five minutes. Due March 13,2017. Appearance 4 pts	Exceeds Standard The instrument is well-constructed and nicely decorated. It is sturdy, neat, and will stand up to repeated playing over a period of time.	Meets Standard The instrument reflects some effort on construction and decoration. It is reasonably sturdy and neat and will stand up to being played more than once.	Approaches Standard The instrument reflects some alteration to an existing form to "make" the instrument, may be fragile, and may not stand up to being played more than once. There may be an absence of decoration.	Below Standard The instrument reflects an existing form with little or no alteration. Pieces may be missing or falling off. Seems "slapped together" in a hurry. There may be a total lack of decoration.
Construction 4 pts	Exceeds Standard Student can produce good-quality sound on the instrument and explain how the sound is produced.	Meets Standard Student is able to produce a good-quality sound on the instrument with no explanation given.	Approaches Standard Student is able to produce a basic sound on the instrument. No explanation given.	Below Standard Student is unable to produce a sound on the instrument.
Presentation / Demonstration 4 pts	Exceeds Standard Student can tell how they constructed their instrument, what materials were used, and answer questions.	Meets Standard Student can tell how they constructed their instrument, what materials were used, but couldn't answer questions.	Approaches Standard Student presented instrument but could not communicate how instrument was made or what items were used.	Below Standard Student refused to present instrument and/or play for the teacher.
