The A post

The B post

Has a clear thesis that addresses the main question.
The C post

Has a weak thesis that responds less adequately to the main question. Presents central idea in general terms. Thesis usually does not acknowledge other views.
The D post

Has a vague, poorly developed or only partially developed thesis.
The F post

Does not respond to the main question. Lacks a thesis or central argument, and simply restates the main question without evaluating it.
Argument

The A post

Supports the thesis with well-elaborated arguments.

Demonstrates exemplary understanding of the issue(s) at stake, identifying and addressing the key concepts or main ideas.

Appropriate application of concepts and historical understandings.

Acknowledges alternative perspectives and has provided at least 1 counter-argument.
The B post

Supports the thesis with arguments.

Demonstrates understanding of the issue(s) at stake, identifying and addressing some of the key concepts or main ideas.

Applies concepts and historical understandings correctly.
The C post

Arguments do not convincingly support thesis.

Shows basic comprehension of the issue(s) at stake, with lapses in understanding. Does not fully identify key concepts and ideas.

Applies some concepts and historical understandings incorrectly.
The D post

Arguments insufficiently address thesis.

Marginal or poor understanding of the issue(s) at stake, poorly or incorrectly identifying and addressing a key concept or main idea.

Many concepts and historical understandings applied incorrectly.

Does not identify or address the key concepts or ideas.

No understanding of the presented issue(s).

Does not try to apply concepts or historical understandings.

Substantiating the arguments with several examples.

Examples are pertinent, well-chosen, and free from factual error.

Substantiating some of the arguments with examples.

Examples are relevant and relatively free from factual errors.
