Water Cycle Model
The students will create a 3D model. PowerPoint, Padlet, or other media source of the water cycle. They will use ideas such as using a bottle, shoebox, storybook (pop up), poster-size diorama, or other 3D project ideas to make their project. The goal of this assessment is to see how much the students know and can explain about the water cycle.

Knowledge of water cycle and topic

Model representation

Excellent (Responsible Scientist)

The student shows they are very knowledgeable of the water cycle. All facts are represented accurately.
All 6 processes included.
Very Good (Apprentice Scientist)

The student showed some knowledge of the water cycle but some of the facts are inaccurately represented or missing.
4-5 processes included.
Fair (Novice Scientist)

The student showed limited understanding of the water cycle. The project is missing representation of most of the basic processes in the water cycle or most facts are inaccurately represented.
2-3 processes included.
Poor (Working to be a Scientist)

The student showed little to no understanding of the water cycle. The project representation is missing almost all of the basic processes in the water cycle or/and is inaccurately represented.
0-2 processes included.

Label and explain:
Sun
Evaporation
Condensation
Precipitation
Runoff
Accumulation

Excellent (Responsible Scientist)

Each process of the water cycle is labeled with an accurate explanation.
Very Good (Apprentice Scientist)

Most or all processes of the water cycle is labeled with some accurate explanation.
Fair (Novice Scientist)

Several processes of the water cycle is labeled or/and most of the explanations are inaccurate.
Poor (Working to be a Scientist)

Most processes of the water cycle is not labeled and most of the explanations are inaccurate.

Neatness/Organization

Excellent (Responsible Scientist)

The project is very well organized and neat. The cycle is clear to understand with the steps clearly marked.
Very Good (Apprentice Scientist)

The project is organized and mostly neat. The steps of the water cycle were on the project but not easily seen.
Fair (Novice Scientist)

The project is somewhat organized but not very neat. The cycle is not clear to understand.
Poor (Working to be a Scientist)

It wasn't organized or neat. There were no signs of steps of the water cycle.

Creativity

Excellent (Responsible Scientist)

The student's project is very well done in creatively. The project is 3D, Padlet, or an interactive media source. The student went the extra mile to make their presentation as unique as possible.
Very Good (Apprentice Scientist)

The project is somewhat lacking in creativity. The project is not 3D, but may or be PowerPoint, Padlet, or interactive media source. The student took some time to make the project creative.
Fair (Novice Scientist)

The project is lacking in creativity. The project may or may not be 3D, PowerPoint, Padlet, or interactive media source. The student took little time to make the project creative.
Poor (Working to be a Scientist)

The project does not show any creativity. The project is not 3D, PowerPoint, Padlet, or interactive media source. The student did not attempt to make project creative.
