CCSS.3.OA.4

Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 ร— ? = 48, 5 = โฃ รท 3, 6 ร— 6 = ?.

Keep Working!

I am still working on understanding how to figure out the unknown whole number in a multiplication and division problem.
Not yet!

I understand why their is an unknown number in a multiplication and division problem, but am figuring out how to find what it is.
Almost there!

I can determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication and division problem, with help.
You did it!

I can determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication and division problem and get it correct.
CCSS.3.OA.5

Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.2 Examples: If 6 ร— 4 = 24 is known, then 4 ร— 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 ร— 5 ร— 2 can be found by 3 ร— 5 = 15, then 15 ร— 2 = 30, or by 5 ร— 2 = 10, then 3 ร— 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 ร— 5 = 40 and 8 ร— 2 = 16, one can find 8 ร— 7 as 8 ร— (5 + 2) = (8 ร— 5) + (8 ร— 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)

Keep Working!

I can explain the commutative, associative, and distributive property of multiplication.
Not yet!

I can apply the commutative, associative, and distributive properties to decompose, regroup, and/or reorder factors to make it easier to multiply two or more factors.
Almost there!

I can apply the commutative, associative, and distributive properties to decompose, regroup, and/or reorder factors to make it easier to multiply two or more factors and can almost explain it.
You did it!

I can apply and explain how the operation properties can and cannot apply to division and use those properties that can apply to make it easier to find the quotient.
CCSS.3.OA.6

Understand division as an unknown-factor problem. For example, find 32 รท 8 by finding the number that makes 32 when multiplied by 8.

Keep Working!

I am still learning to understand the relationship between multiplication and division.
Not yet!

I can explain the relationship between multiplication and division, but still have a hard time solving it.
Almost there!

I can explain and turn a division problem into a multiplication problem with an unknown factor.
You did it!

I can turn a multiplication or division problem into a multiplication or division problem with an unknown factor.
