Classroom Expectations
	No Attempt at Mastery 1 pts	Basic 2 pts	Intermediate 3 pts	Mastery 4 pts
Effort/Time on Task	No Attempt at Mastery Student did not complete the assignment even with prompting from the teacher.	Basic Student completed the assignment, but needed frequent redirection from the teacher.	Intermediate Student completed the assignment, but needed one redirection from the teacher.	Mastery Student completed the assignment and was not a distraction to other students working around him/her.
Cooperation	No Attempt at Mastery Student did not follow directions and rules. Student argued with classmates or teacher concerning the task. Did not assist other students.	Basic Student followed directions and rules 50% of center time. Occasionally argued with others concerning the task. Student was not able to assist other students, although the attempt was made.	Intermediate Student followed directions and rules for the majority of center time. He/she did not argue with others concerning the task, and when asked, assisted other students.	Mastery Student followed directions and rules for the entire center time. Student encouraged other students.
Content	No Attempt at Mastery Student was unable to understand and demonstrate the concept through the organizer	Basic Student was given prompts for the organizer and explanation of the concept.	Intermediate Student was able to complete the organizer but unable to give an explanation of the concept.	Mastery Student was able to complete the organizer and successfully explain in words the content/concept.
Project Connection	No Attempt at Mastery Student was unable to understand the connection between Build your Own Country Project and the Maps and Globes project.	Basic Student was able to understand the connection between Build your Own Country Project and the Maps and Globes project with teacher help.	Intermediate Student was ableto understand the connection between Build your Own Country Project and the Maps and Globes project without teacher help.	Mastery Student was able to understand the connection between Build your Own Country Project and the Maps and Globes project and apply knowledge of Maps and Globes to create their own country.
Use of information	No Attempt at Mastery Students did not use the research information to complete the project.	Basic Students used 4 out of 6 resources from thier research.	Intermediate Students used 5 out of 6 resources from thier research.	Mastery Students used 6 out of 6 resources from thier research.
