Students will sing selected repertoire using a healthy singing technique, correct rhythms, and accurate solfege. MU.912.C.2.1: Evaluate and make appropriate adjustments to personal performance in solo and ensembles. MU.912.S.3.1: Synthesize a broad range of musical skills by performing a varied repertoire with expression, appropriate stylistic interpretation, technical accuracy, and kinesthetic energy.

This rubric assess the students' ability to read musical notes on a musical staff.

Student demonstrates knowledge of basic musical terms of steady beat, rhythm, melodic direction, pitches, and musical symbols with words and actions.

An end of the semester paper/ presentation incorporating artist, musical terms, vocal styles within the jazz music genre

Student identifies the style of music that they prefer and shares information about this type of music with the class. The project must include a visual and an audio example.

You will be given a Jazz musician to study. You must RESEARCH your musician and prepare a one page paper about this artist. In paragraph 1, you will introduce your musician and give a short biography. In paragraph 2, you will state the style of music they play and describe specific characteristics of their music. For example, some of you will have Jazz musicians who exemplify Bop, Big Band or Cool Jazz. Some artists are predominantly singers and some instrumentalists. Look in your notes about the characteristics of the styles of music that we have studied. Also, what have critics said about your artist's style and technique? In the 3rd paragraph, you will discuss one of their greatest hits. Choose a piece which has made them famous and relate facts such as how long it remained on top of the charts and characteristics that made it popular. MUST BE TYPED! You will give a short oral presentation (5 minutes) about your artist at the end of this week.

An end of the semester paper/ presentation incorporating musical terms, theory analysis within the common music period.

Students are to apply the musical terms they have learned thus far in an analysis of a musical piece of their choice. The purpose is to encourage the students to write about and listen to music intelligently and deliberately.
