COL 105

COL 105 is the weirdest class I have at Tri-County almost. It is a bunch of success teams formed out of kids I have never met, and they do not live near me at all. It teaches in a “self help book” style. It lets everyone know that life is not apples and cherries, and it focuses on how to deal with life’s struggles. Sometimes we have to think outside the box in this class to deal with modern problems. It is a fun class usually.

In this course, we must attend campus events outside of class in order to pass. I have attended a “What is plagiarism?” workshop which explained what plagiarism was and how to paraphrase and summarize. I also attended a poetry reading session which let people read their own work or other people’s works of poetry. It also allowed us to decipher the hidden meanings in poetry.

In the plagiarism workshop, I feel like I wasted time, because I have the same teacher who instructed the lesson. On the bright side, I have really drove into my skull what plagiarism is. I should now this for my research paper. It was a decent workshop. We learned in a group, but no one really mingled into working one-on-one. I do not know a better way to teach the subject however.

I felt like the poetry workshop was not specific in its promotions. I had no idea that we were supposed to bring our own work with us. The teacher made due with what he had and winged most of the meeting. It was nice, and I believe that I learned a lot from it. I knew some of the poets that spoke and it gave me a better understanding of them. There was nothing negative about that experience.
