The Music Library of Kutztown University will support a campus of approximately 9, 800 students. In cooperation with the Rohrbach Library and the Department of Music, the newly established Music Library will provide materials and resources to the students and faculty of Kutztown University. In order to provide the best possible services, the Music Library will need to have the following employees on staff:
Professional Staff
Library Director
The library director will keep track of collection development by the purchasing or borrowing of materials to enhance the collection. While all staff members must be knowledgeable in reference, the library director will be the authority on journals, serials, and other print and electronic resources. The library director will also perform all necessary administrative duties and serve on any necessary committees concerning the library and music department. This position requires an MLIS degree (please see attached job description) with additional experience and background in music.
Support Staff
User Services Assistant
1 FTE support staff member will be required to maintain user services and assist the librarian with administration and acquisitions. This position requires some technical support knowledge and reference database experience. Additional requirements: understanding of University library database, good interpersonal skills, basic music knowledge helpful.
Library Assistant/Cataloger
1 FTE support staff member will be required to assist with cataloging and maintaining the ensembles and scores collection. This position requires cataloging experience and reading knowledge of German and one Romance language. Additional requirements: ability to read orchestral and vocal scores, knowledge of OCLC and MARC records, understanding of University library database.
Student Assistants
2 FTE student assistants will be required to assist students and faculty in the library during open hours. Requirements: shelving items, assist students with searches, aid faculty in location of scores, manage circulation desk. Students are responsible for the safety and security of the library during evening hours and weekends.
Performance Evaluations
The Music Library Director will be in charge of paraprofessional and student evaluations and will comply with University rules and regulations concerning the evaluations. Self/supervisor evaluations will be used and discussed during performance reviews. At that time, short-term and long-term measurable goals will be established and reviewed. All evaluations will be submitted to the main library director for assessment.
The Music Library Director will be reviewed by peers and supervisors. Forms will be made available to Music department staff and library faculty willing to observe and evaluate. Supervisors (i.e. Music Department chair and Rohrbach Library director) will submit evaluations twice yearly to be discussed in person with the Music Library Director. Short-term and long-term goals will be established and measured by supervisors. Personal and library objectives will also be established and reviewed quarterly by the director of libraries.

Job Summary
Manages the operations of the Music Library, providing research assistance and library instruction and overseeing circulation and collection development. Supervises student workers. Serves as library liaison to Music and other departments. Participates in general library and faculty activities. Collaborates with other library faculty in planning the optimal delivery of services.

Responsibilities
Manages student workers assigned to the Music Library; responsible for hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation
Oversees circulation activities in the Music Library and coordinates with main library circulation department as appropriate
Provides research assistance to students and faculty
Promotes and conducts course-integrated library instruction sessions in collaboration with library and music faculty members.
Develops the collection in conjunction with music faculty and the Collection Development Librarian
Evaluates resources and services by collecting statistics, conducting use studies, and compiling reports
Serves as library liaison to Music and one or more other academic departments
Works with music faculty to promote the collection and services of the Music Library; keeps faculty informed of Music Library activities and policies; attends music department meetings
Assists patrons in using multimedia equipment in the Music Library and oversees maintenance of equipment
Coordinates with library technical services on issues pertaining to acquisition, cataloging, binding, and delivery of Music Library materials
Communicates with library director and associate director regularly to report activities and evaluate policies
As a member of the library faculty, attends faculty, staff, and special meetings
As a member of the university faculty, attends faculty meetings and serves on university committees; may serve as an academic advisor
Actively pursues professional development through service on Library and University-wide committees, participation in professional organizations and review of professional literature
Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited library school
Undergraduate or graduate degree in music
Academic library experience, including research assistance and library instruction
Supervisory experience
Knowledge of music resources
Experience with library, music, and multimedia technology
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to public services
