COL 105
COL 105 was a class designed to prepare freshmen students for college. While I did not stay there for the whole semester, I did learn a lot of useful things. Thanks to the journals I did in that class, I was able to learn more about myself. One of the most Important lessons I learned in that class was learning styles. Learning that I was an innovator helped me alot with some of my school work. Knowing my learning style enabled me to dramatically improve my sociology test scores and prepared me for the psychology classes that I am going to take. If I could go back, I would have never signed up for that 7 week math class, so I could devote more time for COL 105.
Plagerism workshop
This was the first event where I learned how bad plagerism was. I learned what was plagerism was, and I also learned some alternatives to quotations. The one alternative that was the most helpful to me was paraphrasing. I hate copying someone else's material word for word, because to me that just seems very un original and boring.Proper MLA paraphrasing allowed me to rewrite someones material without having to worry about plagerism. Overall, this event was very useful, and I'm glad I attended it.
Diversity Workshop
When I found out I had to attend one of these, I was like, " crap this is going to be so boring". However, it turned out to be more interesting than I thought it would be. During my time at that event, I was able to see life from the perspective of many other students. Everybody in there came from all walks of life. Some people had better lives than me, and some were nowhere near as fourtunate as I am. After going to the workshop, I feel like I have a better understanding of how everybody is alike, and how everybody is different. Most importantly of all, I learned that while everybody is different in some way, we all have the same goal of wanting to be succesful in college.
