Constitution of the Hong Kong Student Association
ARTICLE ONE - Name
Section A The name of this organization is the Hong Kong Student Association.
ARTICLE TWO - Purpose
Section A The purpose of this organization shall be:
1. To promote the culture of Hong Kong
2. To bring a closer relationship between individuals among the Chinese community.
3. To provide help for new immigrants or students from Hong Kong.
4. To create and maintain interest in the culture of Hong Kong.
5. To provide opportunities for student involvement within the community.
ARTICLE THREE - Membership
Section A The membership of this organization shall consist of any currently enrolled Texas Tech University students.
Section B Membership in this organization will not be based on discrimination based on race, handicap, age, gender, color, creed, religion, political persuasion, sexual orientation, or national origin.
Section C Members must pay dues in the amount of ten dollars semi-annually or twenty dollars annually
ARTICLE FOUR - Officers
Section A The officers of this organization shall consist of:
President ---- The duties of the president are to organize all of the officers, represent the council, and HKSA when dealing with other clubs or association.
Treasurer ---- The main duty of the treasurer is to oversee all relations concerning HKSA's finance. The Treasurer will be responsible for the annual budget, and will be expected to provide a monthly financial statement. The treasurer is to preserves the right to sign checks and other documents concerning HKSA's financial matters.
Secretary ---- The secretary is responsible for drawing up the minutes of all HKSA meeting, organizing any documents related to HKSA, and contacting anyone involved in HKSA business.
Representative ---- Provide help to HKSA in order to promote the association in general and any club events, including social activities, help session, and meeting.
Web Manger ---- Responsible for the club's computer account, homepage, on-line information, etc.
Section B The qualifications and requirements for officers are:
1. Officers must attend at least one monthly meeting (either officer meeting or general meeting)
a. Failure to meet the attendance minimum will result in impeachment from the office for the remainder of the year.
2. Officers may also impeach from the office by President in agreement with the majority of other officers.
ARTICLE FIVE- Executive Committees
Section A The Executive Committees of this organization shall consist of:
1. Historian
2. Public Relations
3. Activity Coordinators
4. Assistant Secretary
Section B The requirements of Executive Committees are:
1. Members of the Executive Committees must earn a minimum of eight merits per semester.
a. Failure to meet the requirement will result in impeachment from the Executive Committees.
2. Members of the Executive Committees may also impeach from the office by President in agreement with the majority of officers and other members of the Executive Committees.
ARTICLE SIX- Elections
1. All registered members are eligible to vote.
2. Nominees of executive committee must have at least two academic semesters of membership.
3. Voting day will be set at the end of ever fall semester.
4. Members who are interested in getting a position in upcoming committee can notify any committee member one month prior to the election.
ARTICLE SEVEN- Meetings
Section A Regular meeting of this organization shall be held monthly. Public Relations and Activity Directors shall have responsibility to notify members of the meeting via email, phone, flyers, or during the prior meeting.
Section B Special meetings may be called by the President upon 5 days notice to Members.
Section C A quorum shall consist of more than 50% members at any regular or special meeting.
ARTICLE EIGHT-Amendment of Constitution
Section A The constitution may be altered in the agreement with the majority of officers and Executive Committees.
ARTICLE NINE-Advisors
Professor Aliza Wong from the History Department will be the advisor.
ARTICLE Ten--- Handling of Funds
All funds collected on campus will be deposited in the organization's account. The treasurer is the primary officer designated to handle the organization's finances and to manage the account. Other officers will be authorized as indicated on the registration form.
