Jay Yip's e-Portfolio

Welcome to my e-Portfolio! As a lifelong learning student in this relatively new yet exciting field of Instructional Technology, I have created this little place on the web to share a few words of my experiences, ramblings, and everything else in between.
So the first question that usually arises when I tell people that I am an Instructional Technologist, the typical response is “What does that mean?” I tell people that my job is to integrate technology into course curriculum. The next question usually follows with “What kind of technology?” and I go on to explain technologies that can be integrated into the classroom such as Smartboards and clickers and web technologies that can extended the learning environment into what I call the ‘virtual classroom’ or distance learning.
At this stage if people still have interest in what I do, people then ask the million dollar question of why do we need to integrate technology into course curriculum since they were able to attend school and college without much technology.
This is when I start to get on my soapbox and warn people to grab a seat because we’re going to be here for a while! For those of you who are reading this and want to find out why, please click the ‘Why use technology’ link of the left hand navigation along with the other links.
