The position of Reference/Technology Librarian is one that I have been dreaming of obtaining. As a career librarian, I know that embracing technology is no longer an option. It has become an essential element of modern librarianship, and it is an element that I am confident that I am well prepared to perform. I have been searching for a way to put my MLIS training into practice, and this position is an ideal opportunity.

 

My goal is to work with information technology and its web applications, e-reference, portals, Blogging, e-resources, and web maintenance. I have a good working knowledge of Sirsi, Dynix, Dialog, and Lexis-Nexis and my information technology training, assignments, and reports in graduate school have taught me to build websites, Blogs and portals. I am eager to expand my knowledge of nuances of digital libraries and to increase my experience in working with them.

 

My current position as a Library Associate in the Children's Section has provided me a wide variety of experiences:

 

---I have planned and implemented programs for approximately 65 children per week and have increased the enrollment in the summer reading program above that of previous years.

 

---I have been responsible for collection development in two branches which has increased my knowledge of two communities.

 

---I have worked as an adult librarian one night each week which has broadened my knowledge base.

 

---I have worked in a very busy Circulation Department for two years.

 

---I served as an Assistant Cataloger in a very busy juvenile Cataloging Department.

 

I am keen to keep up with the rapidly changing field of library technology, and I am certain that my bi-lingual capabilities will be an asset to my employer and my community. As a member of a diverse and multicultural society, I want to be a constructive force in the larger diversity drive. In addition to the qualifications and experience mentioned above, I also have good interpersonal skills and am blessed with the gift-of-gab.
