Themed Painting Project Rubric Art Project Rubric The student will create several (at least 5) pieces of original works of art that depict major themes from the novel. Drawings or painting should be no more than half of a poster board. In addition to the artwork, the student will need one paragraph for each piece explaining its relevance to the novel. Artwork	Excellent The artwork clearly represents one of the project's major themes. The mood of the creation is easily identified and matches the main theme(s) of the project	Good The artwork represents a major theme from the project guide but is not easily understood or discerned.The mood of the creation is easily identified OR matches the mood of the project	Fair The artwork somewhat represents a major theme from the project guide. The mood of the creation is NOT easily identified OR DOES NOT match the mood of the themes.	Poor There is little or no connection to the project's themes. The mood of the creation is NOT easily identified AND DOES NOT match the mood of the themes.
Appearance	Excellent The artwork is neat and helps the viewer to understand the author's style, tone, and mood .	Good The artwork is neat and intact. The viewer can easily identify the theme.	Fair The appearance is either messy or disorganized. The viewer has a hard time recognizing the theme.	Poor Messy and disorgainzed. The viewer can not recognize the theme.
Effort/Creativity	Excellent Excellent effort and originality! Very Creative!	Good Effort is apparent, some creativity.	Fair Some effort was used, but not very creative	Poor Little effort, little creativity
Written explanation/content	Excellent Accurately explains the elements of the project and has valid reasons why the artwork represents the themes given to the students.	Good Explains most of the elements of the project and has reasons why the piece accurately represents the themes given to the students.	Fair Explains some of the elements of the project and sort of has reasons why items were chosen to represent the themes given to the students.	Poor Not included.
