Artist Research Parody 
Students will create a Parody of a Master painting, substituting animals as the human subject matter and creatively altering elements to engage the viewer in subtle changes of the original composition. Students will use knowledge of Color Theory and skill in color mixing to imitate the style of the work used for inspiration. All colors will be mixed and applied in a consistent manner. An Aesthetic Criticism will be written to Describe, Interpret, and Judge their work.

Student chose an interesting Master work to parody. Subject matter in composition is changed through suggestions of the instructor. The artwork demonstrates some personal expression and logical problem solving skills.
Moderate

Student chose a non-challenging Master work to parody. Student transformed the human to animal characteristics in the composition but did not alter any other elements for interest. Work shows moderate personal expression and moderate problem solving skills.
Weak

Student did not choose a Master work for the parody project. Teacher directed the choice. Student did not change any elements in the composition except for the exchange of animal for human characteristics. Weak personal expression and problem solving skills.

Student made very little attempt to create a parody inspired by a Master work.

The artwork demonstrates outstanding use of medium to represent the technique and style of the researched artist. Excellent demonstration of understanding of Color Theory and all colors are mixed. Colors are layered with complements. Color application is consistent.

The artwork demonstrates strong use of medium to represent the technique and style of the researched artist. Work shows strong understanding of Color Theory and most colors are mixed. Complement layers are evident and application of color is mostly consistent.
Good

Medium is used well and mostly represents the style of the artist of research. Understanding of Color Theory is apparent but complementary layers are not consistently obvious. Color application is mostly consistent.
Moderate

Medium is used with moderate skill and only moderately represents the style of the artist of research. Some understanding of Color Theory and color mixing is evident. Color application is not consistent.
Weak

Weak use of the medium. Little color mixing has been done and little understanding of Color Theory is evident. Color application is very inconsistent with no obvious layering of the complements.
