In this lesson, the students learned about the history of mandalas.They then created their own unique mandalas using mix media of sand, gel pens, construction paper crayons and pencils, and glitter glue.

Skill level is on grade level. Student's use of media was very good with exception of a few places which need some extra added time.

Student's media skill level is exceptional. All media used is done with great time and care. Nothing could be added or taken away to improve the mandala.

Colors blend together with no real evidence of contrast. No thought given to use of color.

Some thought given to how colors work, but with minimal contrast.

Color was thought out with emphasis on contrast created by use of different colored textured media. Evidence of use of color wheel not evident.
Excellent

Student shows clear skill in use of complimentary colors or dark and light colors while creating added contrast of some areas coming forward and others going back by the use of the different textured colored media.
Process

Poor

There is no center point emphasized nor any type of four cardinal points.
Fair

There is a center point emphasized but the four cardinal points or entrances which lead one inside are not visible.
Good

The center point is emphasized but maybe a little too enlarged. There is evidence of either four cardinal points or entrances.
Excellent

The center point is emphasized and is clearly at the very center with a symbol. The four cardinal points are clearly scene and identified.
