5th Week Assessment Project: Value Students will complete a project based on the Art Element of VALUE and write a reflection that shows their understanding of the usage of this element in their artwork. Rubric Code: B24X4B By mrjtmatz Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Arts and Design Type: Project Grade Levels: 9-12

Value Project

Handling of Media	Not Evident/Missing Smooth, gradual pencil technique is not attempted. Shading is scratchy, not smooth, and there is no difference between light and dark tones.	Needs Work Shading is scratchy, messy, or overall not smooth. Some vaiation in tones may be visible, but there is no gradual gradation.	Good Shading is mostly gradual and smooth, some areas lack true gradual movement from dark to light.	Strong Shading is gradual and smooth, no discernable boundaries between shades on round objects is visible.
Scale of Value	Not Evident/Missing All shading looks similar, with no variation between light and dark tones	Needs Work Three steps are evident, A true Dark, Medium and Light tone.	Good 4-5 steps are evident between White and Black	Strong More than 5 different steps are evident ranging between black and white.
Creativity/Artistic Composition	Not Evident/Missing Project is not presented professionally: It is messy, incomplete, or drastically uneven in quality from one area to another.	Needs Work Artwork is presented somewhat professionally, there is noticable unevenness between different areas of the artwork in quality, some may be messy/ lacking full effort.	Good Artwork is presented professionally, some ideas may not be unique, there may be some uneveness in quality between some areas of the artwork and others.	Strong Artwork is presented professionally, ideas are clear and unique, student has taken risks and succeeded in creating a good artistic composition.
Written Reflection	Not Evident/Missing Reflection is purely opinion, no facts are stated to show understanding of the Elements of Art.	Needs Work Reflection is mostly a matter of opinion, some evidence is given to show an understanding of Value and the Art Elements, however some of it may be incorrect in it's application to this individual artwork.	Good Reflection is more of a matter of opinion/self-critique, but student is able to show an understanding of how the element of Value is used and works in their artwork.	Strong Reflection is balanced between fact and opinion/self-critique, student is clearly able to show an understanding of how the element of Value is used and works in their artwork.
