Monologue Performance Rubric 
Drama students will memorize and perform a monologue based on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory scene where Charlie and his grandfather are waiting in line to hand in his golden ticket. Students will create a 30 sec. monologue of Charlie's inner thoughts and feelings at this moment in the novel.

Student attempts to employ posture/gestures but makes little or no attempt to utilize stage directions/ body positions. Nervousness is extremely evident.
Average

Student employs posture and gestures, and somewhat incorporates proper stage directions and body positions but struggles to maintain character.
Strong

Student employs posture and gestures, incorporating proper stage directions and body positions while maintaining character.
Vocal Clarity/ Expression

Weak

Student does not speak clearly, stumbles over words and is often inaudible to the audience. Little or no vocal variation is utilized so the intended emotion is diminished or lost.
Average

Student speaks clearly and distinctly with some minor lapses in volume, pitch, tone, tempo and inflection OR emotion conveyed was inconsistent or uneven.
Strong

Student speaks clearly and distinctly while utilizing appropriately varied volume, pitch, tone, tempo and inflection. Vocal expression clearly conveyed the intended emotion.
Characterization

Weak

Student establishes little or no character as evidenced by the student merely delivering lines. There is no evidence of character dimension and complexity.
Average

Student is clearly prepared and establishes the character yet the delivery lacks understanding of character dimension and complexity.
Strong

Student is clearly prepared and establishes the character. The dimensions and complexities of the character are embraced and delivered.
